The Luigi’s Mansion series has been a beloved part of Nintendo’s lineup since the first game was released on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. However, many fans remember the game being called “Luigi’s Haunted Mansion” instead of just “Luigi’s Mansion.” This has led to yet another bizarre Mandela Effect, where a large number of people share a collective false memory.
Memory vs. Reality: “Luigi’s Haunted Mansion” or “Luigi’s Mansion”?

- The Memory: Many players recall the game’s title as “Luigi’s Haunted Mansion,” which would make sense considering the ghostly theme of the series.
- The Reality: The official name has always been “Luigi’s Mansion.” The word “Haunted” has never been part of the title in any of the games.

Why Do People Remember “Luigi’s Haunted Mansion”?
Several factors might explain why so many people mistakenly remember the title differently:
1. The Game’s Haunted Theme
The entire premise of Luigi’s Mansion revolves around Luigi exploring a haunted mansion filled with ghosts. Since the game heavily focuses on supernatural elements, it’s easy to assume the title would explicitly include the word “Haunted.”
2. The Influence of Other Media
Many other video games and movies use the phrase “Haunted Mansion,” including Disney’s The Haunted Mansion attraction and movie franchise. This may have subconsciously influenced people’s memories, making them associate “Luigi’s” with “Haunted Mansion.”
3. The Sweepstakes Prize That Fuels the Confusion

What makes this Mandela Effect even more interesting is that Nintendo itself may have contributed to the confusion. One of the prizes for a Luigi’s Mansion 2 sweepstakes was titled:
“Luigi’s Haunted Mansion 2 HD Suitcase.”
This raises an intriguing question: Did Nintendo accidentally acknowledge the alternate memory? Or was this just a simple mistake in the prize’s naming? Either way, it certainly adds more mystery to the Mandela Effect.
